True Indian Wedding!

So here we are dressed up in all our Indian glory ready for the looooooong night of wedding party bliss! We took a lot of photos and unfortunately couldn't upload them on blogger (too many, and files were too big) so for more pictures click here. If I'm not looking so happy in this picture it's because I was developing a fever which peaked late that night.

New Delhi Part II

This is their place decorated the week of the wedding.... so beautiful... and at the top terrace is where we had breakfast every morning.
As we were waiting outside for our ride this adorable little puppy walked right up to us! It was soooo cute! After a while he took a liking to us we could tell because he found some shade from mama's skirt and fell right asleep! Mama really wanted to take him home with us...

But after a while I got distracted and was invited to meet a little girl that supposedly looked just like me but the indian versian (and she did!). So I went across the street to find out. Mama decided to come too and unfortunately had to leave the sleeping pup by himself. When she came back dada gave her a whole dramatic story of what happened to the pup (which literally broke mama's heart). He told her that after she left he woke up and was frantically looking around for her. When he saw a lady passing by with a long flowing skirt he started following her .... but the lady was unhappy to have this puppy chasing her and resorted to hitting him with her purse to shew him away.... the puppy sadly disappointed stopped the chase... we never saw him again :'(

Our ride finally arrived and so we went on a small tour of three different sites in Delhi.First one... not sure exactly what it was... but it sure looked neat :) Only down side... I attracted too much attention... everyone wanted to stop us to take a picture of me! I felt like a celebrity trying to lead a "normal life" in the public...."NO more photographs please! I'm not working right now!"

And then we headed for the Baha'i Lotus Temple... here was our first view from inside the car!

I was crying right before this picture was taken... not sure about what... but Shivum cheered me up enough to fake a smile for this photo.
Some of the Baha'i youth serving at the temple...

One more place to go.... but I was too tired to keep up!

A beautiful Hindu temple with TIGHT security!!! This was the only picture we could take BEFORE going in. The sculpture was so intricate on the building... Mama read that it took over 800 years to complete... and 11,000 artists and craftsmen. It just recently was finally put all together.

New Delhi Part I

We took a trip to New Delhi with papa's friend and coworker Pratik (pictured below on left)... he invited us to Delhi where he is originally from for his cousin's wedding. Of course we couldn't say no because we really wanted not only to go to the Baha'i Lotus Temple... but also to be apart of a true Indian wedding! Mama thinks it was almost like the Monsoon Wedding movie... it was that extravagant and full of dancing and excitement! (only without the elephant) We stayed with Pratik and his family and got to be a part of the nightly parties leading up to the wedding ceremony. They also took time to show us around Delhi so we could see all the touristy places.

This is Pratik with his brother ... they were SOOO SO nice to us and always taking care of us (their whole family was!)

Mama got her hands painted with henna... or as it's called here "mendhi" (sp?)...

She had to let her hands dry for I think almost an hour afterwards!

I became really great friends with this little girl named Khooshi and boy named Shivum... they were always playing with me and treating me with such gentle kindness that mama was tempted to take both of them home with us (too bad we couldn't really). This was the first night of festivities we attended... they had a little ceremony exchanging gifts and blessings between the two families (of the groom and bride) but the the bride wasn't actually there .. just some of her family members.

Afterwards, there was food, dancing... dancing... and MORE dancing :-D Khooshi and I danced together almost the whole time! She even knew all the dance moves to some of the popular Hindi songs (which consequently are the songs in films which is where she learned the moves).

Khooshi and her family left a little early and I couldn't bear to be separated from her... so mama agreed to leave early too so we could still be with Khooshi :-D
